"Death of Major John Eager Howard. – Information has reached this city of the death on Tuesday, near Boston, of Major John Eager Howard, a prominent citizen of Baltimore. – Major H. was a man of large means, and a grandson of General John Eager Howard of Revolutionary memory. He was a lawyer by profession, but early relinquished its practice. When the Mexican war broke out he accepted a commission as major of Baltimore volunteers, and throughout the war exhibited a bravery which won for him the respect and esteem of his countrymen. After the war he returned to private life, where he remained. Several years ago his mind became affected, and so continued up to the time of his death. He was a bachelor."
