Sgt Bernard Eugene Shannon, 25, of the Marine Corps reserve, son of Patrick J. Shannon, 180 West Liberty Street, was killed in action Sept. 26 on Peleliu in the Palau Islands.

Memorial services took place in Sacred Heart church Oct. 14, and month's mind Mass was celebrated Friday.

A graduate of Bassick High School and formerly employed by the General Electric Company, Sgt Shannon entered the service Dec. 27, 1941. He saw action on Guadal-canal, Cape Gloucester, New Britain, and at Peleliu.

In addition to his father, Sgt Shannon is survived by three brothers. John Shannon, pharmacist's mate first class, stationed in England; Sgt Thomas P Shannon, with the Army in France, and James j Shannon of Bridgeport, CT, and three sisters, Helen and Margaret Shannon, and Mrs. Luke Lamb, all of this city (Bridgeport, Connecticut).
