Herbert was born in Lovington, the son of Robert and Effie Smith Fair. He married Emma Redenius in 1921. He retired from the Wabash where he was employed for 43 years as a car oiler.
Besides his wife, he leaves daughters, Avis Grizzle of Rosemond, Ca., Shirley Telfer of Decatur; sisters, Imogene Hamilton of Gainsville, Ga., Opal Brown, Erma Bowers, Bernadine Floyd, all of Decatur.
One brother, one sister and one grandchild preceded him in death.
