Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Clarence Monroe Asbill and Beatrice Watson Asbill. He received a degree in civil engineering from Clemson College in 1929, where he was a member of the football team, basketball team, championship swimming team, and president of his senior class. He retired in Greenville as district manager from Exxon Corporation after having worked 41 years with the company. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, he gained great pleasure from a lifetime of hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
