Captain Albert James Cowlishaw was born on September 30, 1862 in Clarksville, Tennessee, and he was the son of William David Cowlishaw (1835–1911) and his wife Sarah Jane (Powell) Cowlishaw (1837–1902). [NOTES: 1~ Albert's parents were married on June 17, 1856 in Montgomery County. 2~ In July 1895, William D Cowlishaw was Captain of the US steamer Weitzel on the Cumberland River above Nashville.]
A retired steamboat captain living at 1307 Gartland Avenue, Nashville, Albert was 76 years old and single when he died of a cerebral hemorrhage on May 15, 1939 at Nashville's Protestant Hospital. Burial was the next day in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
