JOHN W. EDGERTON Obituary
John W. Edgerton departed this life Tuesday morning, April 19, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sadie Plummer, 710 Fourth St., N.W., Puyallup, Wash. He had resided in Puyallup seven and a half years. His wife, Mary E. died there April 8, 1924. On February 27 prior to her death they celebrated their sixty fifth wedding anniversary. They were married at Pawnee City, Nebr., February 27, 1859.Mr. Edgerton was born of Quaker parentage in Fort Wayne, Ind. on June 22, 1837, and at the time of his passing was of the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 27 days. He came to Pawnee City in 1857 and preempted a claim in Clay precinct, being among the first pioneers of Pawnee county. He and his wife resided in Pawnee City several years before selling the farm and moving to the state of Washington.Deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. During the Civil War he was a member of Co. M, Second Calvary.Surviving him are seven children, Eva D. Byers and L. F. Edgerton, Lebanon, Kas; Mrs. Emma Miser, Burlington, Colo.; Mrs. Sadie Plummer, Mrs. Elnora Jacobs, and two sons, Clyde and George, all of Puyallup; also a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Anna Edgerton of Pawnee City, 38 grand-children and 24 great grand-children.The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of Mrs. Plummer, Rev. Harlan Stone and Rev. John Hood officiating. Six grandsons acted as pall bearers. Interment was in Woodbine cemetery.
