WILLIAM LOY HAMMONTREE, JR., a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and teacher, passed away March 7, 2015 at the age of 90. Bill was born August 30, 1924 and was a second generation Arizonan with three generations of his family following him. He attended Emerson Elementary School, North Phoenix High School, Phoenix College and Arizona State University where he earned a Masters Degree in Education and lettered in basketball. Bill was an educator for 43 years at Encanto School and also Clarendon School in Phoenix where he was a teacher, administrator and coach before retiring. He touched the lives of countless students many of whom remained his close friends throughout his life. Bill also served in the Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie H. of Escanaba, Michigan; three sons William L. III and wife Barbara A., Timothy R. and wife Sue M., and Robert Kevin and wife Debbie A.. Also, four grandchildren which include: William L. IV; Kyle B.; Rebecca A.; and Joshua D. Seven great grandchildren include: Kylie M., Kellie N., Morgan M., Justice R., Canon R., Dylan L., Mia B. and one great grandchild on the way. He is also survived by one step-sister, Vivia S. and step-nephew James S. Bill was preceded in death by his brother Richard W. in 1976

After retiring from education in 1989, Bill enjoyed spending many summers with his family at their cabin in Greer. He also enjoyed traveling to England and fishing in Alaska.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Bill’s honor be sent to the Arizona Humane Society of Phoenix. Arrangements by Hansen Mortuary. Private services will be held.
