Joseph Thompson Baker was the fourth of the 11 children of America Holton (Thompson) and Daniel Ayres Baker. Joseph was born in 1889, two years after the family moved from Platteville, Colorado to Hartford City, Indiana; here Joseph received his education in the local schools.

In 1902 when Joseph was 13 years old, the Baker family (now numbering nine children) boarded a train and moved permanently to Colfax, Washington. Here two more daughters were born.

Joseph married Nellie Elizabeth Middaugh (daughter of George and IsaDora [Manion] Middaugh) on June 28, 1914 in Colfax. Joseph was employed at the Colfax Gazette. Here four children were born: Eva Mae, Sina Louise, Howard Clay and Josephine Baker.

In 1935 the Baker family relocated permanently to Port Angeles, Washington where Joseph was employed by the Crown Zellerback company. He loved the outdoors and was a member of the First Methodist Church in Port Angeles.

Died at age 65 years, 10 months, 27 days.

Joseph was a gr-grandson of Mary Elizabeth (Ford) & Capt. Joseph Moran Thompson of Wabash, Indiana, and a gr-gr-grandson of Dr. James & America (Holton) Ford of Wabash, Indiana.
