Roy A. Grove, 87, of 15751 Germany Valley Road, Mount Union, went to be with he Lord at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. His death was unexpected.

Born April 8, 1921, in Shirley Township, he was a son of the late Oliver and Susan (Goshorn) Grove and the step-son of the late Becky Klingler.

Mr. Grove is survived by nine children. Mary "Susan" Laird and Nancy Cordell and husband, Jim, all of Chambersburg; Ronald E. Grove Sr., Cedar Crest, Mount Union; Judy Grove, Alsip, Ill.; Kathy Gill and husband, Jeff, Sandra Cisney and husband, Dennis Jr., and Lori Cooper and husband, Jason, all of Huntingdon; and Frederick Grove and Daniel Grove, both o Mount Union; 23 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Betty Crary, Romeo, Mich.; and Grace Norris, Alachua, Fla.

He was preceded in death by two children, Roy Grove and Darlene Grove; a grandchild and three brothers, George, John and Ralph Grove.

Mr. Grove was a veteran of the United States Army, having served with the infantry in the European-African and Middle Eastern campaigns during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in action.

He was a member of the Blue Juniata VFW Post No. 5754, Mount Union.

Mr. Grove was a 1939 graduate of Mount Union High School.

He worked s a dairy farmer his entire life and had also been employed with Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union, for 16 years.

Mr. Grove enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and he loved spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. George "Buddy" Baird officiating. Interment will be made in the Germany Valley Cemetery, Shirleysburg, R.R.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct 17, and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the hour of services.
