Ernest C. Barefield, 89, (Ernie) (Little EC) of Lorain passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Kingston of Vermilion following a brief illness.
Mr. Barefield was born in Mineral Springs, Arkansas on August 20, 1926, the son of the late Clarence H. and Ester Lena (nee Hicks) Barefield. He was a graduate of Mineral Springs High School: He also attended Southern Arkansas University.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked as a bricklayer at US Steel in Lorain for over 40 years and also was employed by the Bud Brown Construction Co.
Mr. Barefield was a member of the former Fish & Game Club. He enjoyed his membership in the Isaac Walton League and the Bricklayers Union.
He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass Gospel Music, being out of doors-hunting fishing, beekeeping, following the stock market, playing cards, gardening, handling farm animals, watching old movies, TV shows Hee Haw and Jeopardy, listening to jazz and blues music and his hats.
Mr. Barefield is survived by daughters Barbara A. (Roger) Johnson, Donna J. Goodman of Lorain, Cathy D. (David) Dieterich all of Lorain, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a brother Lewis A. (Jetty) Barefield of Little Rock, Arkansas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death death by his wife Juanita P. (nee Milligan) on May 1, 2007, a son Allen Barefield, on May 26, 2007, brothers Paul Barefield, Don Barefield, 1/2 Brother Jim Barefield and 1/2 sisters Frances and Kathleen.
Friends may call Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until funeral services at 1:00 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon with full Military Honors provided by the Lorain Honor Guard.
