Harry Coker Dies at 67
Harry J. Coker, 67, a lifelong resident of East St. Louis, died at 8:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Hospital. He had been a patient a week.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday in Kurrus Chapel with the Rev. Don Murphy, former minister of the Full Gospel Tabernacle, officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Park.
Mr. Coker, who lived at 625 N. 23rd St., spent 34 years as a Union Electric Co. maintenance man prior to his retirement two years ago. He was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle, the Union Electric 20 Year Veterans Club, and Golden Rule Lodge 374, IOOF. He had been a member of the Lodge 46 years.
Survivors include three sons Edward of the home address, a Socony Mobile Oil Co. employee, Harry, also of East St. Louis, an employee of the Elder Manufacturing Co., in St. Louis, and Walter Coker of Buffalo, N.Y., a postal employee; two daughters Mrs. Oscar (Marie) Herderhorst of Belleville, wife of the Plummer-Carmody Pontiac Co. parts manager, St. Louis; two sisters Mrs. Grace Marts of St. Louis and Mrs. George Jones of Los Angeles and a brother Walter Coker, chief of the Washington Park Fire Department. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
