David Affleck was born on 15th April 1874 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, the son of David Affleck, a wool sorter and his wife Janet Ritchie. His colleagues in the Ministry considered him dour and stubborn at times, but one of the best and biggest hearted of men. He died on 28th May 1946 in Dundee Royal Infirmary, (normal residence St Mary's Manse, Ladybank, Fife), St Clement District, Dundee, Angus, aged 72 years. Following a memorial service at St Mary's Church, he was buried in Kingskettle Cemetery on 31st May 1946.
