Around the time of his father's death Peter moved from Rowan County, N.C. to Carter County, TN. Peter is recorded on the Tax Rolls starting in 1796 to 1799. Peter was living in Carter County, Tennessee with his brother John who owned 115 acres. Members of the Waggoner family from Rowan County N.C. were also residing in Carter County at the time. William Vannoy and Peter Engle were living in Carter County and later move to Knox County, KY with Peter. Gen. Hugh White and Catherine Cain, daughter to Peter, were married in Carter County in 1803.

Peter was granted 150 acres on Richland Creek, Knox County KY, that was surveyed on 16 February 1816. Peter sold his land on Richland Creek to Gen. Hugh White, his son-in-law, on 21 April 1827.
