Walter John Yager was born February 17, 1939 to Edwin and Doretha (Porter) Yager in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Central High School in Memphis and then graduated from the University of Memphis where he majored in music. He first married in 1962 and together with his wife had two children, a daughter and a son. He later married Verlon Roberts in 1982.
He taught high school band and his love of music extended to vocal music as well. He was a soloist for several churches and also a choir director. He was a long time member of Morning Sun Presbyterian Church in Cordova.
Walter passed away February 6, 2015 in Byhalia, Mississippi and is interred at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Bartlett, Tennessee.
