Asa Ayres (or Ayers), Jr. vital statistics are unproven. He is believed to have been born in Hadley or Chester, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts. A death date of 04 May 1884 and location of death is unconfirmed; possibly Elkhart, Indiana.

A family Bible of Ransom Osborn Ayres gives "Asa Ayres 2nd born 5 Mar. 1791; Asa Ayres died May 4th, 1884, Age 93 and 2 months."

Information extracted from a pension application:
"4th May A.D. 1871, Asa aged 80 years, a resident of Elkhart, Elkhart Co., Indiana...declares that he is ['is' crossed out and 'was' replaces it] married; that his wife's name was Rachel Bolton, to whom he was married at Aurora, Portage Co., Ohio on the 5th day of March 1812."

Another Form: WAR OF 1812 - DECLARATION FOR PENSION - Asa signed this application 'Asa Ayers' and had two witnesses for the form, with extracts as follows:
'4th May A.D. 1871, Asa aged 80 years, a resident of Elkhart, Elkhart Co., Indiana...declares that he is ['is' crossed out and 'was' replaces it] married; that his wife's name was Rachel Bolton, to whom he was married at Aurora, Portage Co., Ohio on the 5th day of March 1812;' that he was a 'Private in Captain Arral McCarthy Company of the do not know Regiment, at Aurora Portage County, in the State of Ohio on or about 15 day of July 1812 was honorably discharged Huron Ohio on the ____ day of November 1812..' [ here more details of service given, but hard to read.] Note that this application was denied 'because of insufficient service.'

22 June 1878 - PENSION CLAIM ALLOWED [AYRES OH44]:
Apparently the government passed another act - Act of March 8, 1878 - Asa submitted another form that he signed 'Asa Ayers.'
DELCARATION FOR PENSION OF SOLDIER OF WAR OF 1812 - This form dated 25th March, 1878, when Asa "aged 87 years, a resident of Elkhart, Elkhart Co., Indiana." His service is again described, and George E. Lemon of Washington, D. C. becomes his "Power of Attorney." It mentions that "he has applicat. He received L. W. 160 acres." [This compiler is not clear on this issue of acerage.] Another paper summarizes the following:
"Cert. #22572, Asa Ayers. Claim under Act of July 14, 1871 rejected, insufficient service. No Att'y in the case. Application under Act of Mch 8, 1878 filed by Geo E. Lemon Mch 28, 1878 - with P. O. A. Power of substitution from Geo. W. Best[?] filed June 1, 1878. Best[?] does not appear in the case at any time. Claim allowed June 22, 1878..."

Another certificate: "WAR OF 1812 - SURVIVORS PENSION - Indiana - Asa Ayres [sic] - Rank: Private; Company: Capt. Rail McArthur's; Regiment: Ohio Mil.; Indianapolis Agency. Rate per month, Eight dollars, Commencing March 9th, 1878. Certificate dated June 22, 1878 and sent to Pension Agent June 24th, 1878..."
