Robert Eugene “Bob” Buchanan, 85, of Indianapolis, formerly of Pleasant, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Fla.

He was born May 16, 1930, in Pleasant, to Robert R. and Gertrude M. Spencer Buchanan. He was raised in Pleasant and was a 1948 graduate of Vevay High School. He was raised in the Brushy Fork Baptist Church near Pleasant. He served in the Air Force from Oct. 23, 1951 to Jan. 22, 1956, rising to the rank of Airman Third Class during the Korean War. He then served in the Air Force Reserves until Sept. 30, 1959. He moved to Indianapolis and began working for the Ford Motor Company on July 10, 1957. He worked his way up through housekeeping to supervisor in the Maintenance Department. He retired on March 1, 1988 after 31 years of service. He restored cars and antique gas pumps. He was known as “Mr. B “ in the 1970s and 1980s by the Street Rod Clan. He enjoyed working in his shop and woodworking. He also enjoyed traveling. He had been a mason in Lodge No. 666 in Indianapolis and was a member of the Southview Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis. He wintered in Palmetto, Fla. and enjoyed socializing with friends there for the past 27 years.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Jean “Pat” Kelley Buchanan, whom he married Dec. 20, 1953; two sons, Robert Leon “Bo” Buchanan and Mark Alan Buchanan, both of Indianapolis; four granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, who died July 6, 1987; his mother, who died Feb. 18, 1986; and one sister, infant Loretta Gertrude Buchanan, who died in 1928.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Southview Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis. Military honors will be conducted graveside by the Air Force Ceremonial Unit and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard.

Friends may call at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form o donations to the Make A Wish Foundation or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Contributions can be made at the church or through Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, which is in charge of arrangements.
