Henry was married to Lillie Woolfolk on Nov 28, 1877, daughter of Capt. Richard F. Woolfolk and Susan A. Moore Woolfolk (his first wife who died in 1865), Capt. Woolfolk then remarried Mattie E. Howard Woolfolk who along with him and their 6 children, were ax-murdered in their home by a hired hand. Their children were Lillian A. Cowan born in march 1880; Richard W. Cowan born in Sept 1882; Thomas W. Cowan born in March 1885; Susan A. Cowan (named after Lillie's mother) born in March 1891; and Mattie (named after her step-mother) born in Feb 1896.
