Born in Frederickburgh, David was the eldest son of John Shibley Huffman and his wife Lavina Fralick. He moved with his family to the Belleville area as a young child and remained there the rest of his life. He married Elizabeth Shorey with whom he had seven children. He died in Belleville and is buried in the family plot.
