Anna Marie Parker, age 93, of Griswold, Iowa formerly Elliott, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Griswold Care Center. Anna Marie was born December 3, 1922 in Grant, Iowa the daughter of David and Frances (Bliss) Chalmers. She graduated from Grant High School in 1940 and attended Red Oak Junior College for one year. Anna Marie was a graduate of Practical Nurses Guild in Sioux City, Iowa. She worked at Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Marengo, Iowa. Anna Marie was united in marriage to Eugene Parker on September 2, 1944 in Tacoma, Washington where Gene was serving in the Marine Corps. They started farming in the Grant area and moved to Elliott in 1961. Anna Marie was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church where she served on the church board for 20 years as well as serving as a member of the United Methodist Women, receiving her life membership pin. She was a member of the Grant Ruppert Knee Post of the Grant American Legion Auxiliary starting in 1945 and served both at the local and state level. Anna Marie transferred her membership to the Griswold Unit after Grant closed, being a member for over 69 years. She lived most of her life in Montgomery County until moving to the Griswold Assisted Living in 2008 after Eugene's death. She had been a resident of the Griswold Rehab and Care Center since January of 2015. She always enjoyed helping with the field work, gardening, dancing, camping, and her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Eugene in 2008; sons: Glenn in 1984 and James in 2011; son-in-law: Floyd Stonehocker in 2010; brothers: David Chalmers in 2002 and William Chalmers in 2015; sister: Mary Walden in 2015; brothers-in-law: Wally Walden, Dean Stafford, Bernard Parker, and Gerald Parker; and sisters-in-law: Marvis Parker, Ida Parker, Wilma Miller, and Mary Chalmers. ................


Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Burial will be in the Grant, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will take place one hour prior to the funeral service. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott United Methodist Church or the Griswold Rehab and Care Center Auxiliary.
