During World War II he served in the field artillery and went all over the Pacific theatre. He was in the invasion of Okinawa, and when he was discharged, he held the rank of sergeant. Back home he started farming at his family's place off Columbia Pike. He then decided he would go back to school at Vanderbilt where he received his degree in civil engineering in 1958. Mrs. McLemore is the the former Miss Margaret Mefford of Thompson Station. They have two children Betty and C.L., III. He is a Mason and a member of the American society of Civil Engineers and the Farm Bureau.
