HIAWATHA, Kan.- Donald L. Gore, 66, Hiawatha, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital.

Mr. Gore was born in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on Nov. 18, 1933. He moved with his family to Muskogee, Okla., before moving to Hiawatha at age 7 in 1945.

He graduated from Hiawatha High School and attended the University of Kansas before becoming a fixed wing pilot.

Mr. Gore worked for the Kansas Power and Light Co. in Hiawatha for a short time before entering a helicopter training program and becoming an instructor.

He served in the Army as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He returned to Hiawatha in the early 1980's.

Mr. Gore was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hiawatha before transferring his membership to the United Brethren in Christ Church in Sabetha, Kan.

After retiring from the Army, he attended the Baptist Seminary in Florida where he received a certificate of completion. He was associated with the Propbusters Club in Hiawatha a radio controlled aircraft club. He was a former member of Masonic Lodge No. 35, A.F. & A.M. in Hiawatha.

Mr. Gore was preceded in death by his father, Forrest L.; and two brothers, Charles and Forrest.

Surviving: his mother, Hazel G. Meyer, Hiawatha; a sister, Gladys Alford, Albuquerque, N.M.; two stepsisters, Marj Idol, Robinson, Kan, and Ruth Wolfe, Hiawatha; and a stepbrother, Benny Meyer, Topeka, Kan.

Services: Thursday, Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha.
Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha, Kan.
