Born in Herzog, Russia.

Father: Michael Goetz (1809 to after 1857)
Mother: Katharine (1811 to 1850-1857)

Katharine died sometime between the 1850 and 1857 census, then Michael married his second wife Magdalen Schaefer.

Martin is the brother of Johannes Goetz and Peter Goetz.

Immigrated to the US on the SS Ohio, arriving in Baltimore, MD, on Nov. 23, 1875. Martin moved from Herzog, Russia sometime after the 1857 census. He and his wife came from Liebenthal, Russia, which was founded in 1859

They have no children listed in Die Herzoger. Martin has a son Josef, 1 month old, in the 1857 Herzoger census but his wife is not listed. Martin and Anna Kreutzer were married in 1857, according to the 1900 US census and Anna had one child but none living in 1900. So Josef was probably her son and died before they came to America.

They are listed in the Libenthal, KS 1880 US census, but in all subsequent census they appear in Victoria, KS.

After Anna Kreutzer Goetz died, Martin married the widow of Franz Knoll, Anna Katharina, in 1909 at 75 years old.
