Obituary for George Ainslie
George Ainslie, wonderful husband, model father, father-in-law, caring grandfather (recent great grandfather) amazing brother and uncle passed away on January 12, 2016 at home from a fatal heart attack (after a great round of golf while watching his soccer!).
George had a happy, full and interesting life.
George was born in Birkenhead Cheshire (across the Mersey from Liverpool) in 1937 to Mary Ellen and George Ainslie. He was injured in the war by the bombing when he was a schoolboy, he worked on the Queen Mary and he even played semi pro soccer in England.
George loved life, loved his family, friends and golf…
George was a mechanical engineer, one of his first jobs was working for Cunard Lines on the Queen Mary. Prior to that while going to night school he was playing soccer and was even offered a contract to play for the Tranmere Rovers. His favorite team was Liverpool FC.
George met his beautiful wife Peggy (Margaret) in the summer of ’55 at a dance and eventually married in ’59. Their daughter Nicola was born in ’61 followed by son Tim in ’63 and daughter Sarah in ’65. After Sarah was born George decided he needed to find a better opportunity for the family’s future and decided emigrate to the US. At that time it was a brave and gutsy decision but that’s the kind of guy he was – confident, sure and always looking out for his family. He brought the family to Cherry Hill NJ where they lived for 12 years followed by 7 years in Tinley Park IL and finally settled in Concord, CA in 1984.
George leaves behind his loving wife Peggy and his three children Nicola and husband John, Tim and wife Dionne and daughter Sarah. He will be greatly missed by his 8 grandchildren Brittany and her husband Todd, Willie, Danielle, Nick, Alex, Trevor, Jake and Ben, and his great grandchild Hendrix. He was very close to his only sister Vivienne, her husband Mike and her children Andrew and Jane. They will miss him dearly as well. All of his family – immediate and extended - meant the world to him and they looked to him as a role model and mentor. He was truly one of a kind.
George loved to play golf and made so many wonderful close friends at the golf club. A generous man he was and it goes without saying that he was a popular and favorite guy at the golf course. He loved his dear friends and had many. He will be missed…
