Thelma Alice Burgdorf Schmoe, 96, passed away with family by her side on Dec. 15, 2015, In Klamath Falls, Ore.
Thelma was born on May 9, 1919, at her home near Dairy, Ore., the daughter of Albert and Bertha Burgdorf.

She attended schools in Dairy and Bonanza. After graduating from high school, she married Virgil Schmoe. Together, they raised four children on their ranch near Bonanza.

In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, Thelma was active in the community as a member of the Bonanza PTA and often as a hostess for wedding and baby showers. She wrote articles for the Herald and News and took great pleasure in writing cards and letters to family and friends. Thelma loved to cook and host potluck dinners and always had her camera ready to document all the fun.

In 1974, Virgil and Thelma retired and moved to Klamath Falls. They spent summers in Brookings, Ore., deep sea fishing and winters in Yuma, Ariz. In later years, Thelma was an avid fan of basketball - she loved the Portland Trail Blazers. She enjoyed taking day trips around the Klamath Basin and eating out with family and friends at The Grill and Casey's. Thelma's 96 years spanned from traveling in a horse and buggy to listening to music on an iPod. She embraced it all. She would just laugh and say, "What's Next?"

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; daughter, Louise Patterson; son, Don Schmoe; parents, Albert and Bertha Burgdorf; brother, Eldon Burgdorf; and sister, Helen Burgdorf.

She is survived by her daughters, Virgie Schmoe of Klamath Falls and Karen and son-in-law Don Clark of 29 Palms, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Ed Burgdorf and family of Albany, Ore.
