Elizabeth Adams Davis Stamey, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at The Homestead on Wednesday morning, Jan. 13, 2016.

A native of Jackson County, she had also resided in Alexander County before making her home in Haywood County most of her life. Elizabeth enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, cooking for her family, sewing and Bible study. A Waynesville Township High School graduate, she had played several sports and was captain of the basketball team in her senior year. Mrs. Stamey was a lifelong Baptist. She shall be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard Filmore Adams and Bessie Jane Hooper Adams; two brothers, Jim and Rufus Adams; a sister, Molly James; and her husbands, Charles Ray Davis Sr. (Waynesville) and Norman Stamey (Canton).

Left Tuckasegee to work as a house-keeper while attending high school. Encouraged siblings to continue education.

Played basketball for Waynesville Township High as well as "all women's sports available at the school at the time." Was captain of basketball team at least one season and was voted most athletic woman.

Married Charles Ray Davis, Sr. (1924-1989) on 24 May 1947 in Clayton, Rabon County, GA. Daughter Vicki and son Charles Ray, Jr. (Ray) were born in Taylorsville, NC where they lived from the late 40's to late 50's. Son Richard Dale was born in Waynesville.

Among the places she worked were (old) Haywood County Hospital, Grady Davis' store, Dr. Spurling's dental office, Wellco, Belk Hudson in Waynesville, Brand Rex in Enka and had her own store in downtown Waynesville.

After death of Charles, married Norman James Stamey (1923-2011) of Canton on 14 Feb 1994 in Clayton, Rabon County, GA. Later moved from Oakdale Road in Waynesville to Edwards Cove in Bethel and then to Worley Cove in Canton.

Had three children with husband Charles Ray Davis, Sr., five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren as of 28 Dec 2020.

She enjoyed crocheting, cooking for family, Bible study, puzzles and walking. Traveled to Holy Lands.
