Rock Musician. He was the lead vocalist and guitarist with the 1960s rock music ensemble "The American Breed." They achieved a gold record with their hit "Bend Me, Shape Me" (1967), which peaked at number five on the American Pop Charts. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Loizzo intended on a career in Education and studied for one year at Illinois State University. He changed direction and enrolled at DeVry Institute of Technology, where he studied Electronics. While previously attending Wilson Junior College, he met bassist Chuck Colbert and the two formed their first group Gary and the Knight Lites and recorded their first single "I Don't Need Your Help" (1966) under the USA record label. After undergoing the name change to "The American Breed," they moved to the Atca label and scored a Top 30 hit with "Step Out of Your Mind" (1967), followed by their signature song "Bend Me, Shape Me." They experienced a further Top-40 hit with "Green Light", before disbanding in 1969. Loizzo founded his own recording studio Pumpkin Studios and went on to become a highly-successful recording engineer. He died following a battle with cancer.
