MCKINNEY - Clara McKinney Reddell, 98, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church. Burial will be in Pecan Grove Cemetery by Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home of McKinney.

Mrs. Reddell was born Jan. 31, 1908, in the Wilmeth community, north of McKinney, the daughter of the late John Brice and Annie Magers McKinney. She was a direct descendant of Collin McKinney and Elder J.B. Wilmeth, two early pioneers who settled in Collin County in 1846 and played a big part in the early history of Texas, Collin County and McKinney.

She was married June 6, 1931, in Durant, Okla., to Eugene "Gene" Randall Reddell, whose tragic death occurred May 20, 1939, at the Texas Power & Light substation east of Dallas.

She was a graduate of McKinney High School and attended Hall's Business School.

She was a member of First Christian Church of McKinney, a church organized in 1848 by her great-grandfather, Elder J.B. Wilmeth, at the homestead where she was born and lived most of her life.

She served 37 years as office secretary for the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, under the direction of six managers and 37 presidents. Major projects during her tenure of office include the Ashburn General Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospital, Lavon Dam and Reservoir, the Upper East Fork Associaton, McKinney Industrial Foundation and Park, Collin County Fair and Purebred Livestock Association and Greater McKinney United Fund.

She was a member of the Former Chamber of Commerce Managers and Secretaries Association of East Texas, which covered a 72-county area. She served as its secretary-treasurer in 1963 and held a 21-year attendance award.

A family genealogist, she is also the author of the 1959 compilation, "Historical Facts about McKinney, Collin County and Collin McKinney" or "History," a widely distributed publication.

She was a past member of the McKinney B.&P.W. Club. She served many years as the secretary-treasurer of the McLarry Cemetery Association. She was a member of McKinney's 150th Anniversary Task Force and received recognition at the McKinney Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet as a nominee for the Sesquicentennial Citizen Award. She was a longtime member of the Heritage Guild and guest of honor at its "Celebrate the Century" banquet in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five brothers, Drury M. McKinney,Joe M. McKinney, Collin L. McKinney, J.B. McKinney and Armyn O. McKinney.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Ann Cooper and husband Don of Perryton; two grandchildren, Tim Cooper and wife Paula of Perryton and the Rev. D'Ann Cooper of Los Angeles; two great-grandchildren, John Collin Cooper and Cullie Don Cooper, both of Perryton; a brother, Ridgell M. McKinney of McKinney; a nephew, Joe Charles McKinney and wife Mary of Albuquerque, N.M.; a niece, Mary Carmyn McKinney and husband Joe Neeley of Dallas; and a number of great-nephews and great-nieces.

The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church building fund, 1800 W. Hunt St., McKinney, TX 75069, John B. and Annie McKinney Endowment Fund, 105 N. Chestnut St., McKinney, TX 75069 or the Collin County Historical Society.
