6735 Private J H Sharpe, 2nd Battalion The Royal Highlanders (Black Watch). Unmarried. Wounded (gunshot wound to the skull) at the battle of Magersfontein 11 Dec 1899 during Second Anglo Boer War 1899-1902. Subsequently died of his wounds at Wynberg Military Hospital, Cape Town aged 23 years. Commemorated on a Boer War memorial in Maitland Cemetery, Cape Town, South Africa. Also commemorated on a memorial for Presbyterian soldiers who died at Wynberg Military Hospital, located in Maitland cemetery, Cape Town, and on the Black Watch Boer War memorial in Market Street, Edinburgh, Scotland (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/80146/) and on a Black Watch memorial on the site of the Battle of Magersfontein in the Northern Cape, South Africa (see: http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Overseas/MagersfonteinBlackWatch.html)..
