From the The Dalles Times-Mountaineer. (The Dalles, Oregon) SATURDAY... SEPTEMBER 9, 1899

Missing Boy Found Drowned. Portland, Sept. 5.
"On August 27 Maurice Boffa, the 5 year old son of a Portland musician disappeared from home. It was feared that he had been kidnapped, but this morning his body was found floating in the river at the foot of Morrison street. He evidently had been accidently drowned."

In another column of this same newspaper there was this additional brief article:
"The mystery surrounding the disappearance of little Maurice Boffa who was supposed to have been kidnapped from his home in Portland on the evening of August 27 has been cleared up by the finding of the little fellow's remains floating in the Willamette yesterday morning. It is evident that he was playing near the river, and fell in. He was last seen at the foot of Pine street with two little playmates. Owing to the extreme fondness of the parents for their little son and the reward offered for his discovery, public sympathy has been aroused in the case to an unusual degree. The mother is prostrated by the news."

The Mt. Calvary website lists the burial location as "UNK" and the funeral date as "8/26/1899", which differs from the newspaper dates.
