A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Harley Bates and Ada Bell Bates. She was married to the late Charles Robert Stamey, who died in 1994, and was preceded in death by an infant son, Lloyd Stamey, who died in 1937. Florence was a member of Black Mountain Baptist Church.
Her kitchen and home were always open for her family, friends and neighbors. A sandwich, some cake or a tomato biscuit could always be found on her table. On the stove, she usually had a good meal cooking.
Many times sick, disappointed or hurting, we could always count on Mom to give kind works, a remedy or advice, assuring us that everything would be alright, while saying "God Bless You."
She is the beloved mother of eight children, Margaret Stamey Ledford, Joyce Holbrook, Wayne "Bud" Stamey, Glenda Robinson, Doris Stamey, Lois Stamey, Wanda Stamey Brown and Cathy Stamey, all of Franklin; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home. The Revs. Danny Cannon and Ernie Jamison will officiate. Burial will be in the Rush Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Macon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Stamey, Keith Stamey, Christopher Stamey, Mike Ledford, Tony Holbrook, Brian Davies, Bobby Parker and Steve Tallent.
