The seventh president of the University of Maine was graduated from the University in 1895 and returned to the institution in 1896 as a tutor in mechanical drawing and graduate student to receive, two years later, the C.E. degree. Then in 1901 following a period of employment as a civil engineer, he returned again as an instructor in Civil Engineering to begin his long career as a teacher, Dean of Technology, and President of the University until his retirement in 1934.
