April 1, 1905 -- May 31, 2002

M. Darlos Booz Decker, 97, of Hancock County Nursing Home, Carthage, formerly a longtime resident of Hamilton, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.

She was born on April 1, 1905, northwest of Tennessee, the daughter of John Logan and Catherine Patricia Sennett Booz. On August 24, 1936, she married Arbon Frank Decker at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage.

She is survived by two sons, five grandchildren, and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one sister; and three brothers.

Darlos graduated from Tennessee High School in May of 1920, and graduated from Colchester High School in May 1922. She held her first teaching position at the Woodville School, south of Joetta, Hancock County, at age 17. She drove a horse and road carriage to the one-room rural school. She taught in Hillsgrove, Woodville, Midland and various schools in Hancock and McDonough counties. She left teaching after her marriage to Arbon Decker in 1936, and the births of her sons. She spent this time with her family.

She returned to teaching in the intermediate grades (fifth, sixth, seventh grades) in 1958 in Elvaston, and remained there until her retirement in 1971. During the summers, she expanded her education at Western Illinois University in Macomb.

She began working at Lamporte Funeral Home in 1975. She served the community through Lamporte Funeral Homes for over 20 years, retiring at age 90.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton, and a member of the Catholic Women's Group within the church. She was also a longtime member of Western Illinois Threshers. She worked many hours with Western Illinois Threshers, providing baked goods, quilts, and other crafts. She was also a member of Hamilton Senior Citizens. She was a member of I.S.E.A. of Illinois and the Hancock County Retired Teachers' Association.

Services were held Tuesday, June 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hamilton, with Father R. M. Lukoskie as celebrant. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, with Father Richard Pricco officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hamilton, St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb, or to the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.
