SPOTSWOOD - THOMAS HORVATH died Thursday, January 21, 2016 in Bradley Beach. He was 75. Born in New Brunswick, he grew up in Edison, NJ. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served on the U.S.S. Stormes (DD-780) from 1959 to 1963.

In 1964, he married his great love and childhood sweetheart, Arlene M. Dietrich, and moved to Spotswood, where they raised 3 boys and resided for 50 years.

He worked at Princeton University for over 40 years. Starting in the boiler room at an entry level position, he worked his way up to receive the prestigious Gold Seal License of Engineering and became Chief Engineer before retiring in 2004.

"Oscar", as he was often referred to, was the tireless band manager and head roadie for "Sportin' Wood" for the last 25 years.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, and spending time with his brother Steve down the shore.

He was a quiet man of great integrity and patience, with a gentle soul, big heart and a tremendous work ethic. He would tell it like it is, always meant what he said, and was the kind of guy that would give the shirt off his back to help a friend.

He will be forever missed by his 3 sons; Tomas of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., John and his wife, Victoria, of Manalapan, and Robert and his wife, Joan, of Old Bridge; a brother, Steve and his wife, Hildegarde, of Old Bridge; a sister, Mary Lynn Simmer and her husband, Bill, Of Philadelphia, PA; and his loving girlfriend, Mary McKay, of Bradley Beach.

He was a devoted husband, dedicated father and caring "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren Jarod, Jade and Johnny. His spirit will live on in them.
