Ethel Phenis was the first of three children born to William Riley & Flora Jane Phenis in the township of Madison, Greenwood Co., Kansas. Sept. 29 1897 she married William Meade McWethy. The couple spent their early married life on 160 acre claim in Beaver Co. The family moved to Stillwater in 1920 for educational reasons. Charter members and helped organize the Church of Christ in Stillwater. Four children:Faye McWethy, Meade McWethy, Marie Keeth and Lunora Payne.
