Son of Matt and Frances Polich.

He moved with his family from Butte to the Eureka area in 1914. He attended school at Grave Creek and Fortine.

He married Florence Smithson and they had a baby. Soon after, Florence passed away. Joe later married Hazel Porter on 25 Aug 1940 in Eureka, Montana. There were 5 children born to this union.

He was engaged in cattle ranching, logging, and harvesting Christmas trees. He served on the board of directors of Cenex in both Eureka and the Flathead Valley as well as being a member of the Montana Loggers Association and the Montana Cattlemen's Association. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Eureka.
