ETHEL LENORA BRIGGS
September 19, 1920 – January 20, 2016

Ethel Briggs, 95, formerly of Pasadena, California, passed away on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 at Meadowbrook Senior Living of Agoura Hills, California.She was born September 19, 1920, in Olympia, Washington to Herman and Pensacola (Turner) Kline. She grew up and attended schools in Olympia, Washington. She played trumpet with 3 sisters and her father, fondly nicknamed the Kline Trumpeters. In her early 20’s Ethel was employed for 2 years with the State Highway Department in Washington. She moved to Pasadena with her cousins in her mid-20’s and attended a private Nazarene Christian college – at the time named Pasadena College. She worked as Henry Kearns secretary at the Victory Mfg. Co. in South Pasadena. She also served as secretary for 15 months to Henry Kearns while he was President of the National Junior Chamber of Commerce Headquarters in Chicago. She later worked for Mr. Kearns at San Gabriel Valley Motors, his latest venture. She later accepted a position with the Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce followed by a secretarial position with the Hillside Children’s Home in Los Angeles, CA. After her children were older, Ethel went back to work and accepted a position with Perkin-Elmer, a technology company in South Pasadena, and was employed with them for approximately 8 years until their South Pasadena corporate office was closed in the 1980s.Ethel met Clinton E. Briggs at a Dance Studio in Pasadena, CA. On May 10, 1952 they married, having their ceremony at the Hillside Children’s Home. They were married 59 years when Clinton passed away on December 24, 2011. They had a new house built just up the street from the Hillside Children’s Home where they raised their two daughters Colleen and Darlene. Ethel especially enjoyed family life, her religious faith, sewing, baking and gardening.Ethel is survived by her daughters Colleen Rakiewicz and Darlene Quintanar; her son-in-laws John Rakiewicz and Humberto Quintanar; her grand-children, Jennifer Rakiewicz, Christopher Rakiewicz, Madison Quintanar and Tristan Quintanar; and her great grand-child Kira Haley-Rakiewicz. She has 4 surviving sisters Stella Digman (98), Rose Anderson (93) and JoAnne Kline (78); one brother Ron Kline (81) and a Sister-in-Law Bobbye Kline , all residing in Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband Clinton Briggs, her parents, and sister Aimee Sundberg of Port Orchard, WA.The funeral service will be held on January 29, 2016 at Rose Hills Memorial Park at 3pm in the Rainbow Chapel, Whittier, CA.
