Susan's spouse was Michael J Archer 1843-1930 from Monroe County, Ohio. Michael was born a bastard to Michael M Archer 1814-1891 and Lucinda Bishop 1817-unknown on March 27, 1843. His parents did not marry. He enlisted in the Union Army on June 10, 1861 as a private, B25 Ohio Infantry, Camp Jackson, Monroe County, Ohio for 3 years. At the Battle of Cross Keys, he was wounded and transferred to a hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. In Baltimore he met Susan and they were married on February 17, 1863 while he was still in the service.

After the war he worked for the B&O Railroad as an engineer living in Baltimore. Susan and Michael had three children while living in Maryland.

In 1877 the family moved to Newton, Kansas where their fourth child was born.

Mary Josephine "Mamie" Archer Nicklas 1877-1951

In November of 1881 Michael deserted the family and Susan not able to pay the mortgage on their property, returned with her children to Baltimore. Michael never returned to his family and died at the Soldiers' Home in Boise, Idaho on July 19, 1930.
