Born on November 17, 1881, Elige (sometimes spelled Elijah) or "Lige" Cline, was the son of Amanda and Alderson Cline. In 1907, Elige married Lenore and over the years they had several children. All but one child died along with Lenore, after a terrible illness swept the area. Elige and his son, Oscar were the only survivors. In 1917, Elige married Buna and they had the following children: Maybell, Macado "Mack", Cathaleen "Kay", Lenuel, Lenford, Denver, Winston, Marie and Noxal. - He played a part in the uprising of the coal miners, fighting for unionization and rights. He was said to have been on the steps of the McDowell County Courthouse the day Sid Hatfield was assassinated by the Baldwin-Felts agents. Elige was later accused and convicted of being involved in the dynamiting of powder house owned by the mine company, which killed someone (or more than one person). Elige claimed it was the company who set him up. He spent 18 months in Moundsville jail for the conviction.
