OLUMBUS, GA - Edward L. Abbott, 84, of Columbus, died Thursday, Aug. 12, at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus. Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Abbott was born June 2, 1920 in Wenona, Md., son of the late Henry and Mary Elizabeth Abbott. He was a retired auto mechanic and a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Rita Whitley; two sons, Norman Jerome Abbott and James Dwayne Abbott; a daughter, Evelyn Owens; a step daughter, Tracy Adams, all of Columbus; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
