Burton E. Johnson, 75, of Eau Claire died Monday, September 11, 2006, at Dove Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

He was born in Galesville, Wis., on January 28, 1931, the son of Basil and Emma (Stenberg) Johnson.

He married Jeanette M. Thoma on January 5, 1953, in North Creek, Wisconsin.

Burton served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1950, and then served in the Naval Reserve until 1956.

He worked as a diesel mechanic at Peterson Implement in Whitehall, Vold Implement in Osseo, Senn Blacktop in Eau Claire, and then maintenance supervisor for Eau Claire Park and Rec working with youth until his retirement in 1994.

Burton was a jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything. He enjoyed boating with his family, flower gardening and bird watching.

He is survived by his four sons, James (Daryl Joyce) of Ettrick, Jeffrey of Whitehall, Jason (Rhonda) in Maryland, and Jerry (DeeDee) of Eleva; two daughters, Juanita (Steve) Lane of North Pole, Ala. and Judy (Bruce) Johnson of Blair; and their mother, Jeanette (Clark) Moe of Whitehall; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Milan (Krista) of East Inverness, Fla., Lyle (Janice) of Marshfield, Basil Jr. (Audrey) of Eleva; his sister, Betty (Al) Sly of Spooner; aunt, Gladys Larson of Blair; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum, Wis., with Pastor Christine Emerson officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Strum, where VFW Post 6515 will conduct military graveside honors.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark- Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire, 814 First Ave., and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
