"DEATH OF H.J. WEED
Passes away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hawk.
Had Been a Resident of Cedar Rapids Sincec 1872 and Was With Star Wagon Works 29 Years.
Hanford J. Weed died at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O.O. Hawk, 1205 Second avenue. Mr. Weed was an old resident of Cedar Rapids and he had a large circle of warm friends here. He was born in New York state, April 4, 1824, came to Iowa in 1853 and located in Cedar Rapids in 1872. For twenty-nine years he was with the Star Wagon company. His wife died six years ago and since then he has been living with some of his children, mostly at the home of Mrs. Hawk. Mr. Weed was the father of W.W. Weed, of the firm of Frazee and Weed. Another son, T.E. Weed, lives in Davenport and another daughter, Mrs. W.C. Carpenter, lives in Marion, South Dakota.
Mr. Weed had been ill for four months and had been a patient sufferer. Much of the time he suffered severely.
The funeral will be held at the house Friday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by the Rev. E.J. Lockwood of the St. Paul's M.E. church. Mr. Weed was a member of that church. The interment will be at Oak Hill where Mrs. Weed was buried six years ago."
