Dwight Earl Sarber, 66, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at his daughter's home in Garden City, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 11, 1931, at Tyner, Ind., the son of Cyril and Hazel Stout (Skinner) Sarber.
He received a bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University, as well as graduating as a commissioned officer with the U.S. Air Force. A pilot in the U.S. Air Force for eight years, he earned the rank of captain.
In March 1963, he married Ann Clark at Amarillo, Texas.
Mr. Sarber moved to Garden City from Amarillo. A Garden City businessman, he owned a motor repair business and opened Sandburr Art Gallery in 1981. He was a collector of fine art and pottery and enjoyed playing golf and cards.
He is survived by a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Sarah (Sarber) Jones, both of Garden City; three brothers, Deane and Cy, both of Plymouth, Ind., and David "Lou," Anchorage, Alaska; his mother, Hazel Skinner, Tyner; and one granddaughter.
A memorial service is planned at a later date.
The family suggests memorials be sent to St. Catherine Golden Belt Hospice, 1133 Kansas Plaza; Community Congregational Church, 710 N. Third; or Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo, 405 S. Fourth, all at Garden City, KS 67846.
