He was born Donald Francis Kirk, Tuesday, November 19, 1929 at Klamath Agency, Oregon to Rebecca (Orr) and Francis G. Kirk.
Donald moved to Roseburg two and a half years ago from Klamath Falls, Oregon. He loved being in the outdoors, fishing and camping-living at the Klamath Marsh. He enjoyed being with his nieces and nephews. In his younger years he cowboyed and he lived his life in the traditional native way. To all of his friends he was known as "Bear".
He served with pride in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was also an honorary member of the First Division of the Marine Corp, fighting on the front lines during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his sister Barbara Kirk of Chiloquin, Oregon; five nieces; five nephews; six great-nieces; nine great-nephews and four great-great-nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his brother Robert Kirk, sister Ruth Kirk, great-nephew Charles Kalama Kirk and his parents.
There will be a Memorial Service, Saturday, April 14, 2001 at 11 a.m., at the Williamson River Indian Mission, Chiloquin. Lunch will be served after the service.
The family asks, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be given to Rose Haven Nursing Center, 740 NW Hill Avenue, Roseburg. Private cremation was held under the care of WILSON'S Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home and Crematory.
