Buddy Louis Fields
Buddy Louis Fields of Miami, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011, following an extended illness.
He was born March 8th, 1920, in the community of Dodge, Oklahoma, to Wesley and Lena (Hinds) Fields.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, and one son, Dr. Joseph E. Fields.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty D. Fansler Fields, of the home, son John David Fields and wife Connie of St. Louis, son Daniel and wife Terri of Stillwater, and daughter Dr. Sara Fields of Miami, Oklahoma. Also surviving are grandchildren Dr. Starla Halcomb and husband Brandon of Stillwater, John Fields, Jr. and wife Dawn, of Miami, Amy Lill of Wichita, and Jayme Harper and husband Chris of Joplin, great-grandchildren Tiffany, Blaine and wife Celena, Taylor, Eli, Mitchell, Hailey, Hayden, Georgia, Reagan, Addison, and Lauren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Bud was a WWII veteran and a Baptist minister who dedicated his life to God and helping others. He served as pastor to WhiteWater, Ottawa, Commerce Southeast, and Peoria Baptist churches.
He worked at BF Goodrich for many years and farmed at the family home east of Miami. Bud loved his family and his greatest delight was spending time with his grandkids.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved gospel and bluegrass music. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great joy and appreciation of life. Bud was a strong, kind, and gentle man who will be deeply missed by many friends and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 21, at First Baptist Church in Miami, Oklahoma.
Luncheon will be served beginning at 11:30 at the church.
Bud's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Viewing and visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-4:00 at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
