Samuel was a farmer in Saville township, Perry County. Censuses show 4 children for Samuel and Sarah: Eliza Ann, Richard P., Calvin and Foster.

At his death he left his home and some land to his "beloved wife" Sarah Ann. His tannery and four woodland lots "at the narrows in Saville township" were distributed among his children. Additionally, he allocated $500 to daughter, Eliza Ann, for "services rendered" and $300 to son, Foster, when he reaches age 21. Finally he noted, "If son, Richard, goes into business" he is to receive "two or three thousand dollars"
Perry County Wills, Vol C-D, 1854-1880.
