Charles G. Alschlager was born Nov. 20, 1840 in Germany. He, with his father and his family settled in New Lenox, Ills., about 1855. Charles lived in New Lenox, on a farm until the war broke out at which time he enlisted in 39th Illinois, we think he enlisted in the fall or early winter of 1861 and served until Sept. 10 1864. He died Aug 11 1871, after suffering for several months. He was a brave soldier and a true friend. (Paper unknown - Listed in New Lenox Obituaries.) Handwritten note stating plot number.
