'DIED. At her home in Angola, Indiana, on Wednesday, March 8, 1899, Mrs. Margarite Melendy, aged 31 years, 6 months and 22 days. Margarite Brunnhofer was born in Toledo, Ohio, August 16. 1867. Bereft of her mother when she was but two years of age, and of her father five years later, without a brother or sister, the years of her girlhood were spent in the home of her grandmother, whose tender care and training all but supplied the mother love of which she had been deprived. In the year 1884, she first came to Angola as a student in the Tri State Normal College, graduating in the course in vocal music with the class of '86. January 1, 1889, at Bryan, Ohio, she was united in marriage with I. A. Melendy, and from that time has been a resident of Angola, and identified more or less with its college, church and social life. Into this home three children came, the second dying in infancy. Franz, now eight years old, and Harold, nearly four, with the husband, survive her. On January 9, 1890, she put on Christ by baptism into His church, a day she ever after spoke of as her second birthday. She tried to live a helpful, Christian life active in the various departments of the work of the church, and especially of the Sunday school and Deborahs. But it was preeminently in the home that she believed her place of usefulness was to be found. Always unselfish and considerate of others, at no time was this trait of her character more clearly shown than in her last illness. Throughout this time from September until March no word of com plaint escaped her lips, and, though the desire was strong to live for her children's sake, there was no rebellion against the Father's will, but with confidence, complete and beautiful, like a tired child, she went to sleep. Though gone from the earth- born life, just as she was approaching the zenith of her womanhood, when life was fullest, the future brightest, can any one say her life has been in vain? Funeral at the Christian church in Angola, Friday, at 2:30 p. m., conducted by Elder C. S. Medbury assisted by Prof. L. M. Sniff.'
