Son of Joseph F. and Juanita (Mujica) Bastanchury, of the pioneer family of Orange County, California. From his obituary in the Los Angeles Times, Oct. 14, 1970:

"Funeral Rites For Fullerton Rancher Set:
FULLERTON - Requiem Mass will be said for Joseph A. Bastanchury, member of a pioneer family, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Brea. Mr. Bastanchury, 55, of Fullerton, died Monday. He was a longtime rancher and a member of the Native Sons of California and Elks Club of Brawley, Calif. Survivors include his wife, Norma; his mother, Mrs. Juanita Bastanchury of Fullerton, and three daughter."
