Margaret “Peggy” Elizabeth Fake, age 66, passed away on Thursday, February 4th at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA. Her battle to overcome a rare and horrendous condition, aplastic anemia, and its correlated maladies, was long and ferocious, and she fought valiantly. Her family and friends have lost tremendously.

Daughter of William and Betty Shank, Margaret was born April 1st, 1949, in Harrisburg, PA but grew up with her parents and four siblings near extended family in the rural areas surrounding Elizabethtown, PA. Although attending a one-room schoolhouse at one point, she completed her education at Annville-Cleona High School in 1967, then married and raised her two children in the small North Annville community of Waterworks. She retired from Hershey Foods, Inc. after over 30 years of employment, where she had once served as a union representative. She had also been a proud member of the Waterworks United Methodist Church for many years. A devoted mother, she survived sub-sales, sports practices, scouts, college visits et al. and never missed her children’s school plays, concerts or ceremonies. Her dedication to family and unwavering support were thoroughly directed at her children and their friends, sisters and brothers, grandchildren, great grandchild and personal friends, all of whom she showered with love and generosity, as well as the greatest pies ever made.

Margaret was a self-made woman and a tireless champion of the working class, who, without the benefit of privilege or college education, was naturally accomplished in many disciplines. Her love of the country DIY lifestyle was shown in her multitude of talents and interests. Along with working full-time, she excelled at cooking, baking, canning, landscaping, vegetable and flower gardening, raising animals, sewing, crocheting, furniture refurbishing and interior design. She was forever busy and enjoyed reading poetry and mystery novels, Garrison Keillor, bed & breakfast excursions, watching documentaries, fine wine, classical music, theater and concerts, art exhibits, fishing, travel, as well as collecting antiques and fine furniture. Her empathy for all in the world suffering from cruelty, negligence or disease was exhibited in her kindness to friends, strangers and animals alike. Forever rescuing and adopting stray cats, she was a tireless contributor to numerous charities including the Wildlife Defense Fund, St. Judes’s Hospital, ASPCA, Amnesty International, the ACLU and many more. Her contagious smile, open mind, vivacious personality, impeccable taste, sense of humor, thoughtful and enormous heart made her a truly unique woman.

Left to honor Margaret’s life, along with her many wonderful friends and those she touched with kindness, are her sisters Sarah McCaleb of Virginia and Lucy Bracale of Arizona, and her brothers William Shank and Samuel Shank, both of Harrisburg. Her daughter Amy Fake with partner Jamie Golembewski, son Carl Fake, and grandchildren Kimani Harris, Zachary Golembewski, Maximus Golembewski, Lexi Golembewski and great grandchild Ronan Harris all share in the blessings of her incredible eternal love.

Funeral Services will be held at 2PM, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Kreamer’s Funeral Home in Annville. Viewing will be held from 12PM to 2PM prior to the service, with burial following. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made the ASPCA.
