Dr. Marthy received his undergraduate degree from Siena College and subsequently attended Albany Medical College where he graduated in 1950. He returned to the military and served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps from 1950-53. Returning to Albany Medical Center he was board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology and began private practice in 1956
In addition to private practice, Dr. Marthy was a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Albany Medical College from 1955 until his retirement. During the course of his career he also served as Chief of the Sub-Department of Endocrinology at St. Peter’s Hospital and as Associate Chief of the Department of Medicine at St. Peter’s. Dr. Marthy was honored as Physician of the Year at St. Peter’s Hospital in 1992.
In his retirement years up until his final illness he worked at various clinics and as assistant physician for the New York State Police.
In 1951 he met and married Carolyn Martin. They settled in Albany where they started what became a large and loving family. He was the devoted husband of Carolyn for more than 58 years. Father of Peter (Kathleen) Marthy, Anne (Jim) Marthy-Noonan, Susan (David) Hoffman, Catherine Marthy, Laura (Michael) Robinson, Jane (Ron) Ladouceur, Paul (Eileen) Marthy and Irene (Michael) Valada. Grandfather of Stephen, Andrew and David Marthy; Timothy and Margaret Noonan; Peter and Elizabeth Hoffman; Jason (Beth), Sara and the late Jeremiah Robinson; Emma, Guy and George Ladouceur; Kara and Joshua Marthy; Laura Jane, Carolyn and Johnny Valada.
Dr. Marhty was a devout Catholic whose faith grew and strengthened during his time as a student at Siena College. This faith informed and enriched every aspect of his life. He was appreciative of God’s abundant blessings.
Funeral services Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Historic Church of St. Mary of Capitol Hill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at theMcVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen St., Albany Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
